Pastor Willie James Harmon and Linda Williams Harmon are the parents of two children: Christopher James Harmon and Bianca Nicole Harmon. Pastor Harmon was born on June 30,1960. He founded Word Of Life Assembly upon Matthew 4:4, "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."
The ministry of Word Of Life Assembly is Word-centered whether in the preaching, in the music, or in the youth programs. God's written Word is our standard and the Lord Jesus Christ is our focus.
The first service was held in Pastor Harmon's garage, located at 7 Lenox Way in Warrenville, SC on February 24,2002. There were fifteen people who attended service that day. Sunday church services and Wednesday night Bible Study continued in the Pastor's garage for three and a half months, until the Lord blessed us with a building. During this time we were chartered by the State of South Carolina and received exempt status from the U.S. Government as a non-profit religious organization.
In May of 2002, Pastor Harmon found a building to rent that was previously a gas station, a night club, and then fish restaurant. The building needed many repairs before the church could hold worship service in it. Pastor Harmon and members of the church worked for a month repairing the building. Walls were built to separate the main Sanctuary from the Children's Church. New carpet was installed, and many more repairs were done. By God's grace, Word Of Life Assembly relocated to 2051 Storm Branch Road in Beech Island, SC on June 30, 2002. More importantly, on July 21, six people came to the altar to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Many ministries were added to the church, such as Children's Church and Adult Sunday School, which began September 21, 2002. Pastor Harmon also initiated ministries to help the community. In September we started "Operation Go-Fish", a day of community outreach to let the community know that we were in the area and cared about them. During the Thanksgiving holiday we had a "Day of Thanks", in which the women of the church made gift-baskets filled with "goodies" for senior citizens in need. This was an annual event for many years.
Our Tutorial Program began in October of 2003, in which students were provided with weekly academic assistance during the school year. Secret Sister, Ladies Heart & Home-warming, PACE (a weight-loss and exercise program) and Men and Women's Fellowships were started. These ministries are designed to help develop true relationships among members. We truly believe that "Fellowship helps build Relationship".
Our Youth Choir, Praise Team, Flag Team and Dance Team enhance the Praise & Worship service at Word Of Life Assembly. Psalm 149:3 says, "Let them praise His name in the dance; let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp."
In June of 2004, Alphonso Richard and his family (including his wife, Helen; their daughter, Briana and their two sons, Alphonso Jr. and William) joined Word Of Life Assembly. Brother Al joined the vision of Pastor Harmon and served as our Associate Pastor for over two years. By God's grace and mercy, the church continued to make progress and the membership steadily increased. By December of 2004, membership had reached sixty and we had many visitors that worshipped with us on a regular basis. Also, at the end of 2004, God blessed us to be able to purchase the building on Storm Branch Road.
As the years continued to progress, many new and exciting things were taking place in and around the church and community. We welcomed many regular visitors, supportive friends and new members each week. This increase in membership again brought the need for us to relocate to a bigger building. To accommodate the new additions that God so graciously allowed to join the Word Of Life Assembly family, in July of 2008 we relocated to 572 Pine Log Road in Beech Island, SC. By December of 2008, membership had reached one hundred and fifteen.
As God's "goodness and mercy" continues to follows us, so have an increase in new membership and the need for an even larger facility. Pastor Harmon and some of the men of the church inquired about a new "potential" place of worship in early 2011, but did not feel a release by God to make a move at that time. Pastor Harmon faithfully and patiently waited on the leading of the Holy Spirit and eventually inquired about this "new location" again. The original owners, International Pentecostal Holiness Church had dropped their price tremendously, and Pastor Harmon finally felt led by God that this was the right time!
In July of 2012, we signed the paperwork for our newest and current location: 332 Legion Road in Warrenville, SC. This property consists of two separate buildings located on 7.5 acres of land. The smaller building was used as our main sanctuary during the last week of July through November of 2012. This smaller building consists of four classrooms, a fellowship hall with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, Pastor's office, Finance room, and a main sanctuary with a small sound-room.
The larger building is newer and unfinished. It consists of five classrooms, a large fellowship hall, a kitchen, storage room, three bathrooms, a deacon's/ minister's lounge, Pastor's office, and an upstairs sound-room that overlooks the main sanctuary. After months of hard work from many church members completing various unfinished projects within this building, we were able to move into this beautiful sanctuary in December of 2012.
God has continued to bless His church with even more members as we were getting settled into the new building, and under the leadership of Pastor Harmon, we were yet again in need of more space. God then placed it on Pastor Harmon's heart to turn the smaller sanctuary into a children's church ministry. That's right! By God's grace, mercy and blessing, even our children are able to worship in a place of their own. This church is a smaller version of the adult sanctuary, which consists of its own ushers, church secretary, choir, and sound personnel, who are all youth! By God's leading, Pastor Harmon assigned Minister Ben Brown and his lovely wife, Tameka to be the children's church leaders. They served for approximately three years. Our current youth leaders are Luis and Nita Nazario. They have been serving faithfully since 2014, and with our amazing, supportive youth teaching staff, we have seen the Children's Ministry grow and increase by leaps and bounds.
God has blessed His church with three different locations which are all a part of the vision that God birthed in Pastor Harmon: "To Seek and Save the Lost" and "Feed the Sheep", because Pastor Harmon understands that it is not about him or the WOLA members. We are all just "vessels" that God is using in the earth to bring glory and honor to His name. All glory, honor, and praise belong to God for the things that He has done and will continue to do as we follow His voice.
The Spirit of our Lord and Savior has guided and directed Pastor Harmon since before that first day in February of 2002 until now. We accept the challenges and opportunities God has given us to minister to and meet the needs of His people. It is our desire and our prayer that He finds us faithful, obedient, and completely dedicated to His service. We invite you and welcome you into this great work for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. We love you and thank you for your continued support!
